The Disconnect
Introducing St John’s CofE Primary, a school based in Alum Rock. The school had multiple cameras that had ceased functioning, and the remaining ones provided subpar image quality. Additionally, the existing setup did not adequately cover the expansive site. Given its proximity to a busy main road, the school recognised the necessity for an enhanced system to ensure safety and security.
The Answer
After being appointed as their new security partner, Connaught conducted an in-depth and comprehensive site survey alongside the Business Manager and Site Manager to ensure all areas of the site were addressed. There were several blind spots previously, which needed to be covered with the new system.
We installed a new IP Dahua CCTV system featuring fourteen new cameras. To stay within budget, we successfully reused two existing cameras that monitored the car parks. Most of the new cameras were positioned externally to cover main entrances and exits. Given that parents pick up students from various areas on site, with different age groups, it was crucial to ensure coverage for the team. The areas monitored included reception, main gates, car parks, and nursery areas.
Additionally, we installed internal cameras in key locations, equipped with audio capabilities in reception areas to enhance safeguarding measures. A brand new 32” monitor was set up in reception for convenient onsite viewing. Furthermore, we installed the software on the laptops of the Senior Leadership Team and Business Manager, allowing them to access and review footage as needed.
The Results; Loud and Clear
The school’s new CCTV system has transformed their security, now providing complete coverage. With the system, the school can also enjoy the mobile app so the site manager can easily access the system when off site or moving around the premises.
We completed new cabling and offered a larger capacity NVR, meaning the school can add cameras in the future. The package also included Connaught maintenance for full peace of mind, knowing they can call our experts at any time. Plus, we gave training on the software and system, so everyone felt confident post installation.
